Bathroom renovation costs in Dubai vary enormously — from AED 6,000 for a basic retile of a small guest bathroom to AED 25,000 plus for a full master bathroom refit with premium sanitaryware and imported tiles. The difference is almost entirely in three things: the quality of the waterproofing (the part you never see but that determines whether the renovation lasts 5 years or 15), the cost of the tiles and sanitaryware you choose, and whether any plumbing positions need to be moved.
Standard Bathroom Renovation: AED 6,000 to 15,000
This covers a bathroom of 4 to 8 sqm with standard-grade tiles (AED 30 to 60 per sqm), a new waterproofing membrane, standard chrome mixer and shower set, basic white sanitaryware, and labour. Plumbing positions stay where they are — moving the toilet or shower waste pipe adds AED 1,500 to 3,000 because new pipe runs need to be chased into the wall or floor. The waterproofing is the most important part at this price point — make sure the contractor uses a proper flexible membrane with reinforcing tape at all corners and junctions, not just a paint-on sealant that will fail within 2 years.
Premium Bathroom Renovation: AED 15,000 to 25,000 plus
This level uses imported tiles (AED 80 to 200 per sqm), premium sanitaryware (Grohe, Hansgrohe, Villeroy and Boch), frameless glass shower enclosures, recessed LED lighting, and often involves moving plumbing positions to improve the layout. At this level, the waterproofing should be a full tanking system with a manufacturer's warranty. Premium renovations typically take 7 to 10 working days. The biggest variable at this level is the sanitaryware — a Grohe wall-hung toilet with concealed cistern costs AED 2,000 to 3,500 for the unit alone, compared with AED 400 to 800 for a standard close-coupled toilet. Choose your fixtures before getting quotes so you are comparing like with like.
The Waterproofing — Do Not Compromise Here
Waterproofing is the most important part of a bathroom renovation and the most commonly skimped-on. A proper job involves a flexible membrane applied in 2 to 3 coats with reinforcing tape at every corner, floor-wall junction, and pipe penetration. The membrane should extend at least 150mm up the walls in dry areas and to full height in the shower area. Flood testing after application — filling the bathroom floor with water for 24 hours and checking the ceiling below — is standard professional practice. If a contractor quotes a bathroom renovation without separately itemising the waterproofing, ask why. If they cannot explain their waterproofing specification, get another quote. The tiles and sanitaryware can be upgraded later. Failed waterproofing cannot be fixed without removing everything above it.
