Pool Maintenance in Palm Jumeirah — The Fronds

Palm Jumeirah frond villas sit in salt air that eats metal for breakfast. On a standard inland villa, a pool ladder lasts years. Out on Frond D or Frond E, a chrome handrail pits and weeps rust within a season, so we quote 316 marine-grade stainless per item — ladder, light ring, handrail — because anything less comes back. The salt chlorinator cell is the other headache. Inland, you'd clean it every few months. Here, calcium scale builds so fast in summer that it needs a cell clean every 6–8 weeks, and the cell itself gives up sooner.

You'll also notice the pools themselves. Garden Homes and Signature Villas on the fronds were built to a handful of Nakheel types between 2005 and 2008, so we know the plumbing layout before we open the gate. Pump rooms sit tight against the boundary wall, which traps heat — we've measured filter pressure climbing past 18 psi on a 40°C afternoon when the pump's struggling.

Water here also reads different. Titration testing usually shows cyanuric acid creeping high because pools sit uncovered under direct sun with no shade from neighbouring towers. We don't just dump chlorine in. We balance pH, alkalinity and hardness first, then WhatsApp you the before/after readings. Fresh water costs money on the Palm, so we avoid draining unless the plaster's actually stained.

Pool maintenance on the Palm fronds runs AED 350–425 a month for a standard villa pool on a fixed weekly day — we're on Frond A through E, and Atlantis is our usual landmark for routing. Frond D and E villas sit closer to the open sea, so salt-cell cleaning comes round every 6–8 weeks in summer instead of quarterly. That cell pulls apart in about 40 minutes, and you'll lose the salt reading if we don't test it after.

Each visit is roughly 45–60 minutes: titration testing for pH, free chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid, then balancing with chemicals included. Skim, brush walls and floor, vacuum, clear the skimmer and pump baskets, backwash the sand filter, check pump running current and filter pressure, inspect the auto valve and pool light. You get a WhatsApp report with before/after readings. Drive from Al Quoz is 30 minutes, but RTA and monorail traffic near Nakheel Mall can add 15, so we don't promise a clock time.

Honest caveat: 316 marine-grade stainless for ladders, light rings and handrails is quoted per item, and it isn't cheap. Neither is a full drain and acid wash with refill — that's a separate day, not a visit.
