Pool Maintenance in Discovery Gardens

Discovery Gardens isn't villa work, and it isn't tower work either. The clusters sit low-rise, six themed zones from Zen to Mesoamerican, and most units run split AC rather than FCU, which actually makes life easier. What doesn't make life easier is access. Every cluster handles building management differently, so the paperwork and gate protocol for Zen might not match Cactus at all. You'll sometimes wait at the barrier longer than the actual service takes.

The pools here split into two jobs. Shared compound pools need a proposal through building management before anyone touches a valve. Penthouse plunge pools are private but tiny, and owners assume small means cheap. It doesn't. A plunge pool still sits in the same AED 350–450 monthly band as a full villa pool, because we're charging for the visit, not the water volume. Chemistry takes the same titration kit either way — pH, free chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid. Skimming a 3m plunge pool is quicker. Testing it isn't.

What we can't do is promise a fixed arrival window. Ibn Battuta traffic on a Thursday, RTA closures, a gate that won't log our vehicle — that's the honest reality. We book a fixed day, not a fixed minute.

Pricing here depends on whether we're talking a shared compound pool or a private plunge pool on a penthouse terrace. For a private plunge pool, you're looking at AED 350–450 a month on a weekly visit — the visit is time-based, not volume-based, so a small Zen Cluster plunge pool doesn't cost much less than a bigger one. Compound pool proposals for building management get quoted per pool, not per unit. Chemicals are included in the monthly figure. Parts are separate: a pump seal or capacitor runs AED 150–400, a full pump replacement AED 1,200–2,500.

Each visit takes about 45–60 minutes: titration testing for pH, free chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid, then balancing, skimming, wall and floor brushing, vacuuming, basket clearing, and a backwash or cartridge clean. We check pump running current and filter pressure, and clean the salt cell if there is one. You'll get a WhatsApp report after every visit with before and after readings.

Here's the honest bit — access. Discovery Gardens is low-rise and mostly split AC, which keeps things simple, but each cluster's building management runs access differently. Zen and Mediterranean are usually straightforward; some others want pre-registration or a gate pass, and that can push a visit to the next day. We don't work around that, we plan for it. Green water needs a shock treatment first, and a full drain and acid wash is a separate job, priced on the pool.
